Newberry Travel Grant Program
Newberry Travel Grants are available because of the College’s participation in the Newberry Library’s Center for Renaissance Studies Consortium (CRSC). Our membership offers the opportunity for short-term fellowships at the Center (one fellowship for an ABD student, and one for a faculty member). A limited number of awards ranging from $500 to $1,000 will be made to help cover travel expenses to the Newberry Library. In addition, our enhanced membership guarantees that at least one graduate student has the opportunity to serve as graduate conference organizer and contributing editor of the online proceedings publication and another has a place on the program to present a paper at the Library’s Annual Graduate Student Conference.
Project proposals may consider any subject in medieval, Renaissance, and eighteenth century studies.
Program Announcements and Proposal Deadline
Announcements for upcoming Newberry funding are usually sent out around the middle of September. Proposals will be due around the beginning of November.
Award Period
Travel and project expenses must occur between January 1 and December 31 of the award year. Awards are actually approved reimbursements and must be requested by award recipients after their travel to the Newberry Library.
Eligible Applicants
Tenured and tenure-track faculty members and graduate students in the Arts & Humanities.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be ranked according to the following criteria:
- How well the applicant describes his or her project;
- How well the CV demonstrates expertise and/or relevance of the Newberry collections and/or Center for Renaissance Studies events to the applicant’s research; and
- Quality and clarity of writing.
Review Process and Funding Notification
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of anonymous reviewers from the College’s Arts & Humanities departments. Results of this competition will be announced around the beginning of December, prior to the beginning of the award year.
Deliverables
Grant recipients may be expected to participate in an OSU-sponsored Newberry symposium to describe their project.
*Awardees will receive a 1099 tax form from the Newberry Library for amounts over $600.00.
