What is the salary for teaching a professional development course?

The payment for teaching professional development online is completed in two stages.

The first is a development stipend is $250 per CEU.*  The development stipend is for designing & implementing the course.  It is paid only the first time a course is offered, and certain conditions must be meet in order to receive the stipend. The stipend is payment is split: one half at the end of the first year, and one half is paid at the end of the second.

The second part of payment for teaching is calculated per-student, and is negotiated on a case-by-case basis.  For 2019 & 2020, student enrollment is deteremined as of December 31, and instructors are paid at the end of January.

What should I expect when I meet with the Instructional Designer?

Dr. Barnes will discuss a variety of best practices and guide you during your planning phase.  Here's an example of a few of the suggestions and recommendations Dr. Barnes shares for online courses taught for credit.  Additional information is available on the CASID website.

Where are the courses hosted?  What type of learning management system is used?

Currently, the non-credit online classes are hosted on "Moodle," an open-source learning management system.  The current layout it close that of OSU's Canvas, and most instructors find it easy to use and navigate.  Support for the Moodle LMS is available through Outreach.  Additional Moodle support is available using video resources on You Tube and the Moodle website.

How do professionals enroll?

Professionals first set up and verify (via email) an account in moodle, and then pay via credit card. Once their transaction has been approved, they are enrolled in the course. This can all happen in a matter of minutes. Once enrolled, they can proceed through the course and receive a certificate.  Many courses can be completed in one sitting.  Currently, students retain access to the course indefinately.
